What are You Reading? What are You Writing? ep. 353 with Nichole Cash
What happens when circumstances force you to give up the creative career you love—and you have to find another way to use your voice?
Award-winning author and podcast host Karen E. Osborne welcomes accomplished voice actor and former professional musician Nicole Cash for a fascinating look at the person behind the audiobook.
After health issues forced Nicole to leave her career in music, she found an unexpected new creative path in voice acting. Just three years later, she has built a thriving career bringing authors' characters and stories to life.
Karen and Nicole explore what audiobook narration is really like: how Nicole chooses projects, the differences between working directly with indie and small-press authors and being hired by a casting director for a major publisher, and the surprising generosity she has encountered among fellow voice actors.
They also share the story of how Karen and Nicole met, explore Nicole's journey from one creative profession to another, and turn the tables on someone who spends her working life reading books: What does a professional narrator choose to read purely for pleasure?
Watch or listen for a fascinating behind-the-scenes conversation about audiobooks, reinvention, creativity, and the voices that transform the words on a page into an entirely different reading experience.
