What happens when pursuing the dream of a lifetime costs you the love of your life?

Award-winning author Karen E. Osborne welcomes writer, educator, producer, and musician Debora Masterson to discuss Freedom Quest: A Love Story, a sweeping novel about music, ambition, artistic integrity, and a love that survives decades of separation, success, failure, and loss.

Beginning in Southern California in 1965, Freedom Quest follows gifted musician Michael Griffin and Grace, the woman who becomes his anchor and muse. As Michael pursues musical success through the rapidly changing world of the 1960s, '70s, and '80s, the conflict between art and commercial success—and the choices both Michael and Grace make—pulls them apart and sends them on very different journeys.

Debora brings an unusual perspective to the story. Her own career in entertainment began as a singer and dancer, including performing with Sammy Davis, Jr., before she moved into talent representation and film and television development.

Karen and Debora explore the inspiration behind Freedom Quest, the central role music plays in the novel, what Debora loves about Michael and Grace, and what writing their story taught her about herself. They also compare their experiences with rejection, discuss why Debora chose hybrid publishing, look at what's next, and—as always—share books worth adding to your TBR.

Watch or listen for a conversation about music, dreams, rejection, second chances—and whether true love can survive the choices that pull two people apart.
