What happens when everything you believe about your future is tested by grief, betrayal, and circumstances you never imagined?

Author and book reviewer Dee Lorraine joins Karen E. Osborne to discuss The First Last Concert, a contemporary novel about faith, ambition, trauma, hope, and the difficult journey toward healing.

Victoria Robbins returns home to Brooklyn after college determined to become an award-winning writer. She lands a job writing campaign speeches for a United States senator, but her promising future is shattered by the deaths of her parents, political corruption, sexual assault, and a desperate decision that changes the course of her life.

Her path eventually leads to Paris and to Zechariah bin Shukri, an award-winning Malaysian composer and musician whose devotion to faith and family coexists with secrets and personal struggles of his own.

Karen and Dee explore the novel’s premise and characters, especially Victoria, and discuss the role faith and music plays in both the story and Dee’s life. Dee also shares what she hopes readers will take away from the novel, what writing it taught her about herself, what she is working on next, and books she recommends.

Watch or listen and meet Victoria Robbins, a young woman whose dreams and faith are tested in ways she never expected. Then discover The First Last Concert by Dee Lorraine.
